ZGTS presents: WTAS information Session

by Emily McMillen, MBA, Accounting, 2012

Monday afternoon, WTAS joined Zicklin students for an information session about their firm courtesy of the Zicklin Graduate Tax Society. WTAS is a large independent firm that provides a wide range of tax, valuation, and advisory services to individuals and corporations across the country. Beyond tax and wealth issues within the United States, WTAS is also growing in their international capabilities by establishing more international desks utilizing bi-lingual associates, managers, and partners spanning multiple languages around the globe.

Zicklin students were joined by Marilyn Calister, Managing Director; Nilsa Fernandez, Human Resources; David Perez, Senior Associate; Carmen Pop, Senior Associate; and Lee Sussman, Associate.

The presentation covered everything from the professional life in WTAS to the social life. WTAS also touched upon some hot topics that are prevalent in tax today including current legislation and issues concerning the IRS and off-shore bank accounts. WTAS is very active in keeping up with current legislation and ensuring their clients are compliant with any new legislation.

The most important question that was addressed was “why WTAS?” WTAS gives associates the opportunity to go after what they are interested in specializing in. They also allow for significant partner and client contact. When asked asked why he chose WTAS, David Perez said, “It really is the entrprenurial spirit. You can take ownership of your work.”

Marilyn Calister said, “Our goal is to make the next partner.” As a managing director, Marilyn is very active in the recruitment and development of the associates entering her firm. She believes that networking is an important aspect of that development and requires that when attending events, her associates to mingle and come away with at least 10 business cards. She is very clear that she is not looking to hire associates, she is  is looking for her future partners.

The application deadline for WTAS Tax Associate and Internship positions is Wednesday, September 28th.
