Thursday, November 29 – Zicklin School of Business’s Association for International Business (AIB), a graduate student organization, was recognized by a board of judges led by Professor Richard Mitten at the awards ceremony for the Sovereign Bank/Santander Universities Global Awareness Competition.

International Education Week 2012 renewed a rich multicultural conversation centered on learning and exchange, despite the original schedule being delayed by Hurricane Sandy. As part of IEW 2012 activities planned by the Weissman Center for International Business, the Global Awareness Competition to recognize student groups for promoting international exchange was generously sponsored by Sovereign Bank and Santander Universities. This is the first time the awards have been given at Baruch.

Four projects, organized by ten student groups were selected to receive an award. In addition to AIB, eXchange Support (“Around the World”), Alpha Phi Omega, Alpha Kappa Psi, the Student Organization for Caribbean Appreciation, Alpha Kappa Delta Phi, Women in Islam, the Muslim Student Association (“Global Awareness Film Festival”), United Chinese Language Association, and the Transfer Student Organization (“Start Here-Study There”) each had a hand in promoting the international theme.

AIB’s entry tied for the top prize, along with “Start Here-Study There”. Student board members Jiewen Yin and Takuya Oka took the lead on “Exchange to Extraordinary”, a project to capture student and faculty perspectives on international education. Graduate students as well as professors Lilach Nachum and Clifford Wymbs agreed to be interviewed on video about exchange programs abroad and international students here at Baruch. The video is available online

The $3000 prize will go to fund future graduate student activities.
